Product info about Valdespino Moscatel Toneles 37,5cl
Valdespino Moscatel Toneles is a very particular kind of sweet sherry: old, concentrated and made for slow appreciation rather than casual pouring. It comes from Bodegas Valdespino in the DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry in Andalusia and is bottled in a 37.5 cl half bottle.It is made from 100% Moscatel de Alejandría and aged oxidatively within the traditional criaderas and solera system. The name Toneles refers to the large casks in which this old Moscatel is kept. Valdespino gives this bottling an average age of around 100 years, and production is extremely small, at roughly 250 half bottles per year.
The fascinating part is the way it carries great sweetness with striking acidity. Its residual sugar is very high, yet the freshness gives the wine lift and definition. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a contemplative sherry: something to pour in small measures, lightly chilled or close to cellar temperature, and give time in the glass.

About VALDESPINO
The first seeds of Bodegas Valdespino were planted in 1264, when Don Alfonso Valdespino received an estate in Jerez de la Frontera from King Alonso for his help in the fight against the Moors. In the meantime, Valdespino has become a purveyor to, among others, the Spanish and Swedish royal families. The Moscatel Promesa sherry is made from the moscatel de Alejandria grape, which is grown in Chipiona, the area that is renowned for its Moscatel. Chipiona is located right on the western tip of the Jerez region, directly by the Atlantic Ocean. Once the ripe grapes have been harvested, they are dried for ten days. This is done by the sun; the warm uv rays cause the bunches to shrivel quickly, making them lose a certain amount of their juice. The juice that is obtained is of a unique quality as a result. The entire Moscatel Promesa Jerez matures for at least four years in oak barrels in the cellars of Valdespino.
