Virginie de Valandraud 2020 comes from the world of Château Valandraud in Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. It is the second wine of Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud's estate, yet it has a clear identity of its own: created in 1992, named after their daughter Virginie, and linked since the 1997 vintage to dedicated parcels.
The wine follows a ripe, concentrated Right Bank Bordeaux style. Merlot leads the blend, supported by Cabernet Franc, with fruit grown on clay-limestone soils in Saint-Émilion. Twenty months in new oak barriques give the wine a pronounced oak presence, wrapped around the dark fruit concentration associated with the 2020 vintage.
