Pagodes de Cos 2022 is the red second wine of Château Cos d'Estournel in Saint-Estèphe, Médoc, Bordeaux. It is presented by the estate as its own interpretation of the Cos d'Estournel terroir, drawn from selected parcels within the property rather than treated merely as a smaller version of the Grand Vin.

The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, from vines averaging around 40 years of age. Vinification takes place in the gravity-fed cellar at Cos d'Estournel, a method chosen to handle the grapes and young wine as gently as possible. Maturation is shorter than for the Grand Vin, around 10 to 12 months, with a moderate proportion of new oak at about 20%, keeping the fruit expression and freshness clearly in view.

The 2022 vintage at Cos d'Estournel is described as ripe and concentrated, yet with an unexpected sense of freshness. In Pagodes de Cos, that translates into a Saint-Estèphe with volume, red and dark fruit, spicy depth and refined tannins. The aroma opens with ripe red fruit, especially strawberry and raspberry, followed by darker notes of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, blueberry and plum. Cinnamon, white pepper, liquorice, mint, leather, incense, chocolate, coffee and espresso add depth, with a graphite-like mineral edge.
