Pommard 1er Cru 2022 Cuvée Dames de la Charité is a red Burgundy with a particularly evocative background. It comes from Pommard Premier Cru in the Côte de Beaune and is made from Pinot Noir. The name of the cuvée refers to the Dames de la Charité, the Sisters of Charity who cared for the poor and the sick and left property to the Hospices de Beaune.Its identity is built around Premier Cru parcels within Pommard, including Les Rugiens, La Refène, Les Combes Dessus and Les Petits Epenots. Since the 2005 vintage, this Pommard cuvée has been made entirely from Premier Cru fruit. Les Epenots is associated with finesse, La Refène with limestone soils and ageing potential, while Les Rugiens Hauts is noted for bringing energy and tension to the finish.
The grapes are harvested by hand, carried in small crates, sorted, destemmed and vinified with a cold pre-fermentation maceration and daily pigeage during the cuvaison. The wine then matures for 10 to 12 months in oak barrels.
