Corton-Languettes is a name with a very specific resonance, even within Burgundy. Domaine Maurice et Anne-Marie Chapuis Corton Languettes Grand Cru 2020 comes from the Côte de Beaune, on the Corton hill near Aloxe-Corton, and presents Pinot Noir through one of the area's more distinctive Grand Cru sites.Les Languettes has an unusual identity. The vineyard lies on the mid-slope with an eastern exposure, and the same terroir zone carries a different name depending on what is planted there: with Pinot Noir it becomes Corton Grand Cru Les Languettes, while with Chardonnay it falls under Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. Domaine Chapuis states that it is one of only two producers still making this red Corton-Languettes. For Drankenshop Broekmans, that kind of background gives the bottle real context beyond the Grand Cru classification.
The Chapuis family estate in Aloxe-Corton works with hand harvesting and traditional vinification. For the red wines, the domaine describes around twenty days of cuvaison in concrete vats, with pigeage and remontage, followed by ageing in French oak barrels. New oak is generally used in a low proportion, so the fruit and site are not pushed into the background.
The character of Les Languettes is described more through finesse and complexity than sheer power. Compared with the domaine's Corton-Perrières, it is less tannic and less forceful, giving this Grand Cru a more refined and somewhat more approachable expression of Corton. It sits well alongside structured dishes such as beef, veal, poultry or game.
