Domaine Reverdy Ducroux Sancerre Grappes Entieres Rouge 2019 brings the red side of Sancerre into focus. Produced in Verdigny-en-Sancerre in the Loire, it is made from Pinot Noir grown on iron-rich clay-limestone soil at the foot of a steep slope, from old vines of around fifty years.The cuvée name is important here. Grappes Entieres refers to whole-bunch vinification: the bunches go into the vat intact, so the stems play a role in the wine's structure and tannin. During fermentation, the domaine uses small, careful pump-overs and keeps maceration below 28 °C, avoiding excessive extraction from the stems.
The wine then goes through malolactic fermentation and matures in used wooden barrels, described as fûts de 2 vins. Domaine Reverdy Ducroux is a winery from the French Sancerre, a region in the east of the Loire where mainly white wines are made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape.
