Wemyss The Hive Batch 1 shows The Hive in a more forceful form. While The Hive is known as a blended malt presented at 46%, this limited edition was bottled at cask strength, at 54.5%, to give the full intensity of the single malt blend more room in the glass.
The blend is made mainly with single malt components from Speyside. That background supports the whisky's honeyed, fruity and gently spiced personality, with oak playing a supporting role rather than taking over. The name The Hive feels very fitting here: honey is central, but it is carried by cinnamon, orchard fruit, ginger and candied fruit notes.
