Shenk's Homestead 2019 is an American whiskey with rye playing a particularly important role. That substantial rye component gives this release a firm spicy drive, while the whiskey still keeps the sweeter side that comes through in caramel, toasted sugar and dried fruit.
For the 2019 edition, part of the fully matured whiskey was finished in toasted, uncharred French oak barrels. The oak came from the Vosges in France, was naturally air-dried and seasoned for 24 months, and then toasted to specific requirements. That finishing choice was made to bring the rye character more clearly to the surface.
