Château de Carles 2022 is the estate wine of Château de Carles in Fronsac, on Bordeaux's Right Bank. For this vintage it is made from 100% Merlot, and it should be understood as the château's own main cuvée rather than the separate Haut-Carles bottling.
Its setting explains much of the wine's personality. The vineyards are planted on clay and clay-limestone soils over molasse du Fronsadais, with Merlot playing the leading role at the estate. Parcels are vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by ageing partly in stainless steel and French oak barrels. The result is a dry red Fronsac with ripe fruit, structure and the measured Bordeaux feel that suits the appellation.

Chateau De Carles 2022 in magnum is a red Fronsac from Bordeaux's right bank, built around a clear Merlot core. This is the historic cuvée of Château de Carles, separate from the domaine's higher-positioned Haut-Carles, and its appeal lies in a traditional but fruit-focused style with supple tannins and a discreet touch of oak.
The grapes come from the estate's vineyards in Fronsac, planted on clay and clay-limestone soils. The domaine works with hand harvesting and grape selection, temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats and maturation in French oak barrels. For the 2022 vintage, the wine is described as juicy and structured, with more freshness and tension than some earlier years, supported by fine tannins.

Haut-Carles 2022 is the upper cuvée from Château de Carles in Fronsac, on Bordeaux's right bank. For this vintage, the wine is listed as 100% merlot, selected from parcels planted on clay and clay-limestone soils. That sets the tone clearly: a concentrated Fronsac with ripe dark fruit, depth and a firm sense of structure.
The estate works under HVE3-certified responsible viticulture, with hand harvesting and careful grape selection after picking. In the cellar, the same attention continues through parcel-by-parcel vinification, gravity handling and 16 to 18 months of ageing in French oak barriques, half of them new. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a serious, age-worthy Bordeaux rather than a bottle to rush.
