Vandeurzen Albariño 2020 is a fine example of how Belgian white wine can take an unexpected direction when a producer chooses a grape variety that is still less common in Belgium. It comes from Wijnkasteel Vandeurzen in Linden, part of Lubbeek near Leuven in Flemish Brabant.
The wine is grown in the estate's vineyards on the southern slope of Linden. Vandeurzen points to sandy loam soils with an iron-rich subsoil and a local microclimate as important elements of its viticulture. The Vandeurzen family acquired the historic castle estate in 2013, restored it over several years and planted more than 33,000 vines.

Vandeurzen Gruner Veltliner 2021 is a Belgian white wine from Wijnkasteel Vandeurzen in Linden, close to Leuven in Flemish Brabant. Linked to the Hageland, it presents Grüner Veltliner in a dry, fresh style with 12% alcohol.
The estate sits on a south-facing slope, with sandy loam soil and an iron-rich subsoil. Since 2013, the Vandeurzen family has developed the historic castle estate with a broad-minded choice of grape varieties, including Grüner Veltliner. That makes this wine especially interesting as a Belgian reading of a grape that is still far from ordinary in this country.
