Odyssee 2018 is a French red wine built around freedom rather than appellation rules. Bottled as Vin de France, it brings together Cabernet Sauvignon from the Médoc with Grenache and Counoise from the southern Rhône. That cross-regional blend is the heart of the wine: Médoc structure meeting southern Rhône fruit and spice.
The wine is a project by Pierre Graffeuille and Matthieu Dumarcher. In the 2018 vintage, the blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Grenache and 7% Counoise. The Cabernet Sauvignon was matured in older barrels from Léoville Las Cases, while the Rhône components were largely raised in tank. Odyssee 2019 is a dry French red wine built around an unusual crossing of regions: cabernet sauvignon from the Médoc is blended with grenache and mourvèdre from the southern Rhône. Because that combination sits outside a single appellation framework, the wine is released as Vin de France, and that freedom is very much part of its identity.
The 2019 blend is 55% cabernet sauvignon, 25% grenache and 20% mourvèdre. The cabernet brings structure, dark fruit and tannin, while the Rhône varieties add ripe fruit, spice and Mediterranean herbal depth. French oak is part of the ageing, but the wine is not simply trying to be Bordeaux or Rhône; it stands somewhere deliberately in between.
