Familia Zuccardi Canal Uco Malbec 2019 is a red wine from Paraje Altamira in Argentina's Valle de Uco, Mendoza. It comes from Finca Canal Uco, a vineyard at around 1,100 metres altitude and an important site for Zuccardi: it was the first vineyard the family planted in this village, on land that had previously been planted with apple trees.
The interest here lies in how directly the wine is shaped around its origin. The grapes were hand harvested with bunch selection, fermentation took place in concrete vats with native yeasts, and maturation also remained in concrete. For this vintage no oak ageing is mentioned, so the focus stays on the fruit, freshness and the stony, calcareous identity of the vineyard.

Familia Zuccardi Finca Canal Uco Malbec 2021 is a red single-vineyard wine from Paraje Altamira in Argentina's Uco Valley, Mendoza. It comes from Finca Canal Uco, at around 1,100 metres above sea level, and is made entirely from Malbec. For Zuccardi, this vineyard carries real meaning: it was the first site the family planted in the Uco Valley, in an area historically irrigated by the Canal Uco.
The vineyard's alluvial soils are central to the wine's identity. Beneath sand and silt lie gravel and large stones coated with calcareous material, a setting reflected in the graphite-like, chalky and mineral details described in tasting notes. Terrazas de los Andes Reserva Malbec 2020 in magnum is Mendoza Malbec with real table presence. The 1.5 litre bottle contains the same Reserva Malbec 2020 cuvée, but the larger format gives it a more generous, convivial feel.
The wine is built from high-altitude vineyards in Mendoza, with fruit from key areas of Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, including Las Compuertas, Paraje Altamira, Los Chacayes and Gualtallary. Rather than expressing one single plot, it brings together more than 100 parcels from estate vineyards, combining ripe Malbec fruit with floral lift, freshness and rounded tannins.
Most of the wine matures for around a year in used French oak, while a smaller part remains in concrete to keep fruit and freshness in the blend. That (…)
