Compass Box Peat Monster is true to its name, though there is more to it than sheer peat intensity. Islay plays the leading role here, with Caol Ila and Laphroaig clearly present, while Ardmore brings in a Speyside contribution to the blend.
After selection, the whiskies mature together in first- and second-fill bourbon casks. That gives this Scottish blended malt a firm, coastal and peated identity, supported by citrus, pear and a peppery edge rather than relying on peat alone.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a whisky for drinkers who deliberately look for a pronounced peated style, but still appreciate structure and detail in the glass. Bottled at 46%, Peat Monster keeps its voice clear, direct and unmistakably shaped by its island influence.

Compass Box Peat Monster Cask Strength (Compass Box Limited Edition)
On request only
Compass Box Peat Monster Cask Strength marks the 20th anniversary of The Peat Monster with a limited edition carrying the fitting title Skyscrapers of Smoke. Although the whisky components come from Scotland, the original idea for The Peat Monster was born in the United States, through a collaboration with Park Avenue Liquor Shop in New York City.
For this release, Compass Box deliberately brings that American connection back into focus. Bottled at cask strength at 56.7%, it presents a bigger, more forceful version of the familiar Peat Monster style, with smoke, peat, saltiness and spice pushed further forward. Part of the whisky was finished in specially made spicy American oak casks from Missouri, adding a stronger presence of vanilla and cinnamon.
