Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 2020 is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru built around the limestone identity of the estate. This is the château's grand vin, from vineyards around Saint-Martin de Mazerat, where clay-limestone soils and limestone with fossilised starfish help shape the wine's freshness, tension and mineral impression.
The blend is firmly rooted in the Right Bank style: 85% merlot, 13% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon. The grapes were hand-harvested in September 2020 after a vintage marked by a mild winter, a wet spring, a hot dry summer and August rains that helped complete ripening. It is the château's grand vin, sourced from the limestone plateau of Saint-Martin de Mazerat, close to the town of Saint-Emilion. The blend is led by Merlot, with a significant share of Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2022 vintage was warm and dry, producing small berries and natural concentration. What gives this wine its particular definition is the clay-limestone setting, repeatedly linked in the available notes to freshness, saline tension and a chalky mineral line. The grapes were hand harvested, vinified by parcel with gentle extraction, and aged for around 16 months in French barriques, foudres, amphorae and vats.
