Do you like to go DIY with cocktails? Could it be a bit more festive this year-end with champagne, cava or sparkling wine? Would you like to serve a cocktail that your guests are not yet familiar with? Then be sure to read on, because in this blog we bring up four surprising cocktails that you, as a spirits lover, definitely want to have tried once!
Limoncello Sparkler
The first cocktail in this blog is the Limoncello Sparkler, often also found under other names such as a Limoncello Sparkle, a Sparkling Limoncello or a Limoncello Fizz. In this cocktail, we combine a splash of limoncello with a bottle of bubbles. This can be cava, prosecco or champagne but in our set we choose the Loron Cremant De Bourgogne sparkling wine because it is very flavourful and very affordable.
How to make a Limoncello Sparkler?
- 2cl limoncello
- 12cl sparkling wine
- A few mint leaves as garnish
What do you need to make a Limoncello Sparkler?
Use a delicious, artisanal limoncello and choose an affordable but quality sparkling wine to keep this cocktail delicious, surprising and still affordable.
Ruby Sparkler
The second cocktail in this blog is the Ruby Sparkler, also known as a Ruby Fizz or a Ruby Sparkle. In this cocktail, we combine a splash of port with festive bubbles. Again, you can choose cava, prosecco or champagne, but in our set we always opt for the very tasty and affordable Loron Cremant De Bourgogne sparkling wine.
How to make a Ruby Sparkler.
- 2cl Ruby port
- 12cl sparkling wine
- A few raspberries on a skewer as garnish
What do you need for a Ruby Sparkler?
A port-based cocktail obviously starts with choosing a nice port. The Six Grapes from Graham's is one of the best choices value for money, but as an alternative, you could also choose the Graham's Blend Red.
Canchánchara Royale
The CANCHÃNCHARA is a Cuban cocktail and, according to many, the very first predecessor of today's Mojito and Daiquiri.
The classic version is made with 5cl brown rum, 2cl honey water (2 parts honey, 1 part hot water), 2cl lime juice and crushed ice.
The Royale version we offer here is made with one of our most popular and high-quality Planteray brown rums and we top the cocktail with a splash of delicious and affordable sparkling wine.
How to make a Canchánchara Royale?
- 5cl brown rum
- 2cl honey water (2 parts honey, 1 part hot water)
- 2cl lime juice
- Top up with champagne, cava, prosecco or sparkling wine
- Crushed ice
What do you need for a Canchánchara Royale?
This royal cocktail has several ingredients, but since the main ingredients are rum and sparkling wine, it's best to choose a high-quality product for both. The Planteray Grande Reserve allows you to deviate from the standard supermarket brown rums without costing you an arm and a leg, and what's more, both this rum and the Loron sparkling wine are also excellent to drink separately.
Glenglassaugh Royale
The Glenglassaugh Royale cocktail is a surprising combination of an excellent 12-year-old Scottish Speyside whisky with a fantastic sparkling wine.
You make this cocktail with a tall glass. As a whisky, you can of course choose another, accessible and preferably slightly fruity whisky, but in any case, the Glenglassaugh works excellently for this combination.
How do you make a Glenglassaugh Royale?
- 3.5cl Glenglassaugh whisky
- 1.5cl lemon juice
- 1.5cl honey water (2 parts honey with 1 part warm water)
- 8cl sparkling wine or champagne
- Crushed ice
What do you need for a Glenglassaugh Royale?
This combination consists of an accessible whisky with fruity notes and sparkling wine. Preferably don't choose a strong-tasting whisky with, for example, smoke/turf or salty as this will make the cocktail less accessible.

I've known Broekmans since I graduated in 2006 and thanks to Jan I've come to know the passion for spirits. I dedicate myself every day to the webshop, customer service and all the IT involved. In my spare time, besides whiskey, I can also really enjoy rum, but just as much as a gin tonic or a simple bellini. In the words of Martien Meiland, if there's no alcohol in it, don't call me!
