This is how to bake waffles with a tasty creme liqueur
The end of March is International Waffle Day. To be honest, we don't question such a delicious holiday too much, we just celebrate it with great enthusiasm. For this occasion, we make our waffles for once with an extra touch: waffles with liqueur. Njaaaammie!
Waffles with spice!
Beware - this waffle recipe is on its way to becoming your favourite dessert. It's simple: the batter can be made in advance and you can even freeze the waffles for later. The difference with regular waffles is that in this recipe we will mix a creme liqueur under the batter. You probably immediately think of Baileys when you think of a cream liqueur, but did you know that there are a number of other whisky- or rum-based cream drinks available in our drinks shop besides Baileys?
We list a few for you, which you can use to add a luxurious flavour to your waffles in a playful and delicious way.
Step 1: choosing your favourite creamy liqueur
THE IRISHMAN CREAM 17°: Hot Irishman combines the best coffee from Colombia, dark sugar and Irish whiskey from The Irishman.
WORTHY PARK RUM CREAM 15 °: Rum Bar Rum Cream is a deliciously sweet rum liqueur made from the molasses of the Worthy Park Estate Distillery in Jamaica.
PEAKY BLINDER CREAM 17 °: Peaky Blinder Irish Whiskey Cream is a deliciously creamy liqueur, and carefully blended blend of Irish whiskey, cream and chocolate that come together perfectly and enhance each other.
ARRAN GOLD CREAM LIKEUR 17 °: This is a smooth, luxurious whiskey liqueur, ideal to pair with your cup of coffee or with vanilla ice cream. The balance of flavours like caramel, raspberries and nuts is maintained by the addition of vanilla and cream.
KRINGLE RUM CREAM 15° 75CL: The kringle is a kind of pretzel, filled with nuts, fruit and hot spices and topped with glaze. It has a very rich flavour.
Step 2: making the batter
What do you need to make a serving of about 12 waffles? (depending on the size of your waffles, of course :-)
- 4 eggs
- 500gr flour
- 300ml lukewarm milk
- 300ml Cream Liqueur (see Step 1 if you don't want to use the same Baileys again)
- 1 bag of baking powder
- Pinch of salt for some balance
- 350gr margarine or butter (Tip: use melted butter for an extra rich flavour)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 50gr sugar
Of course, you can also work on your own perfect waffle recipe by replacing half of your liquid with a creamy liqueur.
Step 3: mix and bake!
Mix the eggs in a large bowl until light and fluffy. In the same bowl, add your 150ml of lukewarm milk, the cream liqueur and vanilla extract. Melt the butter and add it too. Stir until it is an even mixture. Now it's time to add in the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Mix until you get a smooth batter.
Cover the batter and let it rest for 30 minutes. Once your waffle iron is fully warmed up, spray it with non-stick spray. Voilà , and bake away!
*A good waffle takes about four minutes to bake.
Step 4: whipped cream dabei?
Want to go all next-level with your liqueur waffles? Then serve them with a self-whipped topping of whipped cream. You can also mix a little cream liqueur into the whipped cream for extra flavour!

As a creative jack-of-all-trades in the marketing world, I also bring that imaginative flair to my drink choices. Whether on a night out, sunny vacation or social gathering with girlfriends, I'm always in my element with a refreshing cocktail in hand. Cocktails have stolen my heart because of the endless possibilities to experiment and explore. My favorite cocktail of the moment is the "Lazy Red Cheeks"! A delicious cocktail using vodka as a base. I love vodka because it mixes perfectly with non-alcoholic drinks. My favorite spirit? Rum!
